Feature Wishlist

The MariaDB feature wishlist allows the community to participate in deciding in which direction the development of MariaDB should take place.

Anyone can propose a feature to be implemented. This can be a fix for a MySQL bug that needs to be accelerated, the implementation of a new feature for the optimiser, storage engine features, etc.

Likewise, anyone can comment on a proposal, as well as vote for the importance (in order to help decide the proper priority among proposals).

An important part of the business for Monty Program AB is to do custom development paid by the community. The feature wishlist allows multiple customers in the community to share the funding for the development of a feature by each committing themselves to paying a given amount for the development of a particular feature. Features for which sufficient funding is committed by community members are likely to be implemented quickly.

For community funded features, Monty Program AB provides the following:

  1. Development of the feature, with code released under the GPL or BSD License.
  2. Maintenance of the feature for at least five years, including bug fixing, merging into new versions, etc.
  3. Merging the feature with the Sun version of MySQL, if relevant.
It is also possible for external developers to implement a proposed feature. In this case, Monty Program AB will handle code review, quality control, and integration into the MariaDB code base, as well as future maintenance and merging. The developer will in this case receive 1/3 of the funding for the development work.
